To gain a place at Birmingham you will need to meet our general entry requirements, as well as those specific to your course. Your application will be reviewed by the course’s Admissions Tutor, who will decide whether your application should receive an offer.

The MSc Nursing (adult or mental health field) has been designed as a two-year taught programme. After application and before starting the course you'll need to submit a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your prior learning. The portfolio provides evidence of prior graduate learning and care experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, values and caring behaviours equivalent to year one of an undergraduate nursing programme. The evidence you present in your portfolio will demonstrate how your graduate and experiential learning and skills are equivalent to the development of year 1 nursing proficiencies.
Within the portfolio, you will need to have 500 hours of experience in health/ social care verified by a registrant.

For international students there is an English language requirement to have an IELTS 7.0 with no less than 7.0 in any band.

To help with the cost of studies, this loan is available to all UK students. You can use this loan towards fees, maintenance or other costs at your own discretion. It’s available for all full-time, part-time and distance learning Masters programmes, as long as you don’t already have a Masters qualification (or equivalent).If you’re a student from Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can apply for Masters loans from your country’s government.

We want to welcome the brightest talent to our postgraduate community. That’s why our Birmingham Masters Scholarships award £3,000 to more than 300 students each year.
All students who receive an offer for MSc Nursing will be required to submit two suitable references before being eligible to start studying at the University of Birmingham. References should be submitted with your application as soon as possible. Ideally, we require an academic reference and a professional reference and they need to be sent from a professional email and/or be on headed note paper.
