What is a short course?

Short courses are designed to equip you with skills and knowledge through fast and flexible courses. They vary from 1-day in-person workshops to online lectures and seminars taught over several weeks.

We offer a range of continuing professional development (CPD) and postgraduate microcredential courses, designed for individuals and organisations to empower development and provide you with the skills you need to accelerate your career.

Our CPD and microcredential courses offer flexible learning, so you can enhance your knowledge without stepping away from your responsibilities.

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses offer you the chance to take charge of your career development and gain the skills you need to stay up to date and get ahead in your field.
  • Postgraduate Microcredentials typically include content from modules that form part of existing Master’s degree programme at Birmingham. They can be used as standalone credentials or count as academic credits towards a full Master’s.

Short courses are an assured way to upskill, upon completion you will receive a University certificate or formal qualification you can use towards further study.

I chose to study the short course as I had made the decision to pursue Shakespeare for my Masters degree. However, my qualification from my bachelors wasn’t high enough, being only a 2:2. As such, I decided to study at Birmingham as they offered the short course as alternative qualification.
