This one day course will give an overview of the different types of interstitial lung disease, how to diagnose and manage them, including when to use oxygen. Teaching is via a mixture of lectures and case reviews, done in the style of an MDT meeting.

This course is directly linked to content from the pre-existing MSc course – Respiratory Medicine.

Programme team:

The respiratory group within the institute of applied health research run a variety of cohort studies and trials, including the Oxypuf trial for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Teachers on the course come from this team, and the nearby University Hospitals Birmingham, where there is a large respiratory medicine team managing a range of interstitial lung diseases.

Course content:

  • Diagnosis of ILD (includes radiology and lung function)
  • Connective tissue disease associated ILDs
  • Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
  • Asbestosis
  • Use of antifibrotics
  • Use of oxygen
  • MDT style case based discussion

This one day course is suitable for healthcare professionals seeing and/or managing patients who have interstitial lung diseases, including GPs. Allied health care professionals and training grade doctors who have an interest in respiratory medicine.

Not accredited, but 10 CPD hours available.
