We welcome hundreds of international visitors a year to our beautiful Edgbaston campus including representatives from existing partner institutions, potential new partners, school pupils, Ambassadors and senior political figures. Everyone is guaranteed a warm reception as we welcome the new perspective that they each bring.
Normand Paquin- Associate Director of Research, Coordinated Sciences Laboratory and Neal Cohen- Director, Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Initiative (both centre) from our key North American partner institution the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) alongside Professor Tim Softley, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Transfer (3rd right) and academic and International Relations staff. Hornton Grange, June 2016.
Normand and Neal visited the university across three days in June to learn more about how we operate. They have a vision for a Medical College in which students gain a degree with an emphasis on engineering/ technology. It will work in partnership with the Carle Health Care system (a level 1 trauma centre with 345 beds). UIUC have expressed a strong desire to collaborate with UoB in the Medical College development phase, including having one or more UoB advisors. The visit also provided an opportunity to further broader collaboration discussions following a successful MDS/Life Sciences visit to Illinois in 2015.
We have also recently hosted a wealth of international visitors including President Gong Ke, President of Nankai University, a British Council led delegation of ABRUEM representatives - Rectors and other senior staff from Brazilian universities, the NAFA Study Tour of over 30 North American administrators and Professor Dwikorita Karnawati, Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia.
