The Value of the Chamberlain Award for students who commenced their studies in 2014/15 to 2019/20 is as follows.

If you qualify for an award, payment for the academic year will be made in two equal instalments: one in late January and one in early May. Payment will be made directly into the bank account you have nominated for your Maintenance Loan.

Care Leavers are eligible to receive the Enhanced Chamberlain Award as an alternative to the standard Chamberlain Award. You cannot hold both an Enhanced Chamberlain Award and a standard one.

This award is available to undergraduate students with a household income verified by Student Finance as being below £25,000, or below £60,000 if you belong to one of our priority groups.
Chamberlain Award 2024 entryUniversityClosed 31/12/2024 (Note: competition closed for this year)

The standard Chamberlain Award for 2024 entry is £2,000 per year of study, subject to continued eligibility and normal academic progression. Awards will be paid in two equal instalments: one in late January 2025 and one in early May 2025. Payment will be made directly into the bank account you have nominated for your Maintenance Loan.

Students eligible for a standard Chamberlain Award who are from a Polar 4 quintile 1 area, are care experienced or estranged as verified by the Student Loans Company,  and decide to live in  University-owned accommodation will receive an additional one-off award of £1,000 (in their first year of study only). Please note that this excludes all partner accommodation, including Oak Brook Park, Battery Park, The Metalworks and Selly Oak Court. This additional award will be applied as a reduction in your accommodation fees from the end of January in your first year.  You will receive an email notification on 26 January 2025 if you are eligible for the accommodation award. There is no cash alternative.

If your household income is 25,000 or less, or £60,000 or less and you belong to one of our priority groups, you may be entitled to additional financial support from the University through the £2,000 Chamberlain Award.

For 2025 entry, the Chamberlain Award is up to £2,000 per year of study, dependent on household income and subject to continued eligibility and normal academic progression:

  • £2,000 award for students who have a household income of £25,000 or less
  • £1,000 award for students who have a household income between £25,001 and £35,000

Awards will be paid in two equal instalments: one in late January 2026 and one in early May 2026. Payment will be made directly into the bank account you have nominated for your Maintenance Loan.

The scholarship is £5,000 awards towards tuition fees (for the first year only) of a full-time Undergraduate degree programme at the University of Birmingham UK campus, starting September 2025.

Disability AwardsUniversityOpens October 2025

Up to five awards of up to £600 are usually available. Each award is tenable for one year only, however previous applicants may reapply in subsequent years.

Offering awards of around £600, this scheme is open to all students currently studying at the University who have a disability.
Elizabeth Murray Centenary ScholarshipUniversityClosed 31/12/2024 (Note: competition closed for this year)

Each scholarship is valued at £2,000.

Successful candidates will continue to receive this scholarship in subsequent years of study, provided academic progression is maintained at a 2:1 standard. 

Open to full-time UK undergraduate students who have entered the second year of either a programme in Nursing or Physiotherapy, or a BA programme in the Institute of Applied Social Studies
