Care Leavers are eligible to receive the Enhanced Chamberlain Award as an alternative to the standard Chamberlain Award. Chamberlain Award 2024 entry | University | Closes 31/12/2024 | The standard Chamberlain Award for 2024 entry is £2,000 per year of study, subject to continued eligibility and normal academic progression. Awards will be paid in two equal instalments: one in late January 2025 and one in early May 2025. Payment will be made directly into the bank account you have nominated for your Maintenance Loan.
Students eligible for a standard Chamberlain Award who are from a Polar 4 quintile 1 area, are care experienced or estranged as verified by the Student Loans Company, and decide to live in University-owned accommodation will receive an additional one-off award of £1,000 (in their first year of study only). Please note that this excludes all partner accommodation, including Oak Brook Park, Battery Park, The Metalworks and Selly Oak Court. This additional award will be applied as a reduction in your accommodation fees from the end of January in your first year. You will receive an email notification on 26 January 2025 if you are eligible for the accommodation award. There is no cash alternative.

Chamberlain Award 2025 entry | University | Closes 31/12/2025 | For 2025 entry, the Chamberlain Award is up to £2,000 per year of study, dependent on household income and subject to continued eligibility and normal academic progression:
- £2,000 award for students who have a household income of £25,000 or less
- £1,000 award for students who have a housedhld income between £25,001 and £35,000

Gateway To Work Experience Bursary | University | No deadline; open-ended award | The Bursary is designed to support students in covering the costs associated with unpaid or low-paid work experience. It is not designed to be a wage substitute. Eligible students can apply for up to a maximum of £2500. The amount you apply for will depend on the individual circumstances of your proposed work experience up to the maximum amount. In the past bursaries have supported in covering expenses including:
- Accommodation
- Travel
- Living costs
- Utilities bills
- Insurance
- Childcare

Music Scholarship | University | Closed 07/06/2024 (Note: competition closed for this year) | Each scholarship will offer approximately 17 hours of musical tuition per year for three years and will be administered by the Birmingham Conservatoire (in the case of instrumental tuition) and the UoB Department of Music (in the case of vocal tuition). This musical tuition will have a cash value of £1,000 per year, or £3,000 over the lifetime of the award. | Offering 17 hours of tuition each year (equivalent to a total of £3,000), this offers talented musicians entering the University, in a discipline other than Music, the chance to further their musical development. |
