Award Description
The School has access to a number of UK Research Council grants for doctoral study, through Doctoral Training Partnerships of which it is a member:
- Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) grants for students beginning PhD study in Physical Geography, Environmental Health Sciences, or Earth Sciences research groups.
- Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) grants for students undertaking PhD study in Human Geography, including Urban and Regional Studies.
- Arts and Humanities (AHRC) grants for students undertaking study in relevant aspects of Human Geography.
Projects which will be considered for funding are listed on the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences website.
Value of Award
Full fees plus maintenance grant (UK citizens).
Fees only (non-UK EU citizens).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should have, or be predicted to obtain, a good undergraduate degree (at least a 2:1 or international equivalent) in a related discipline. For some programmes a Masters degree is also required. EU citizens who have been resident in the UK for 3 years or more may be eligible for the maintenance grant as well as fees.
