The Research and Cultural Collections Study Centre Reading Room is a dedicated space to view the collections and related curatorial files. Anyone is welcome to view the collections including members of the public, University of Birmingham staff and students and external researchers.
Please note that it is essential for all visitors to book their research visit in advance. During busy periods we may not be able to support every request but we will endeavour to offer an alternative if your first choice date is not available.
Unfortunately, we are unable to support drop-in visits.
Booking your visit
To book a visit to view an object and/or related curatorial files in our Reading Room please:
- Contact us as soon as possible in advance of your proposed visit. Minimum notice is preferably 4 weeks but we will consider all requests where possible
- Be as specific as possible about what you would like to see. You can select your objects by looking at the online museum database.
The Reading Room is open for research request visit bookings:
- Monday: 10am – 3.45pm
- Tuesday: 10am – 3.45pm
- Thursday: 10am – 3.45pm
Please note that this depends on staff availability and University Closed Days which are outlined on the University’s website here. We will consider research requests for alternative days should these not be suitable. Please enquire if you unable to visit during the days outlined above and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.
Please complete a Research Visit Request Form and email this to us at rcc@contacts.bham.ac.uk. A member of the team will be in touch to confirm your visit.
