These Are a Few of Our Favourite Things

What does your favourite museum object tell you about yourself?

These Are a Few of Our Favourite Things is a new temporary exhibition that highlights the relationship between museum objects and the meanings people give to them.

Museums preserve stories associated with objects within their collections. People also give objects meaning by associating them with their own memories, experiences, knowledge or emotions.

The Lapworth Museum has a wide-ranging collection of more than 300,000 objects covering most aspects of the geological sciences, including palaeontology, mineralogy, and petrology. It also holds important collections of scientific instruments, geological models, zoology, archaeology, as well as one of the UK’s most extensive geological archives.

We asked people who are non-geologists from the Museum's Arts Council England, National Portfolio Organisation Project Board, to select an object from our collections not currently on display and explain what the object means to them.

We hope the exhibition highlights the rich variety of objects within our collections and their meaning to diverse people, as revealed through the insights and recollections of our project board members.
