Where the telescope ends the microscope begins... Electron Microscopy 2024: Fundamental and Applications.

This is an optional (open) electron microscopy module, hosted by Facility for Electron Microscopy at Metallurgy and Materials University of Birmingham. The event is designed as an introduction (fundamental and applications) of electron microscopies and their analyses, mainly for early-stage postgraduate students and scientific research engineers in materials science and engineering.

Its aims are:

  • to understand imaging in SEM and TEM;
  • to understand electron diffractions and the applications;
  • to understand micro-chemical analyses with electron microscopies;
  • to appreciate applications of FIB, coupled with electron microscopies.

We have a wide range of Scanning Electron Microscopes (used for looking at specimens) and Transmission Electron Microscopes (for looking through specimens). Our technical and academic staff  have many years’ experience of electron microscopy along with a history of delivering exceptional analytical services, ranging from failure analysis to texture analysis. Whether our client is a manufacturer or a scientific laboratory, we can provide suitable external shape, internal microstructure and chemical microanalysis from millimetres down to atoms.
