The School of Chemistry is able to provide elemental analysis. Our primary instrument is a CE Instruments EA1110 elemental analyser, dedicated to the determination of the amounts (%) of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen in organic and inorganic samples produced within the School and externally.
The EA1110 is based on a dynamic flash combustion and G.C. separation system that gives an accurate and precise analysis of any sample in less than 10 minutes. We analyse samples for other Schools within the University and from external commercial companies. Some examples of the samples we analyse include:

Elemental analysis
Analysis is performed by heating the sample in either oxygen or an inert gas atmosphere and measuring the relative amounts of Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Sulphur produced by the flash combustion.
