What can we learn from looking at anatomy, and drawing its detail? The thorax houses the vital organs which allow us to draw oxygen from the air - our lungs. Explore how the bones and muscles of the thorax create breathing movements, and examine the airways within the lungs. You will hear about the history of anatomy and art, as well as get a chance to draw aspects of thoracic anatomy - from models of organs and bones, historical illustrations and digital media.

Join anatomist and broadcaster Alice Roberts and friends for this live drawing workshop in the atmospheric setting of The Exchange Banking Hall. All levels of drawing ability are welcome at this workshop. Materials will be provided.

This activity is presented as part of The Air We Breathe, a public programme at The Exchange, with an exhibition, activities and events that explore the close relationships between us, our environment and our air quality. From a hydrogen train to a sci-fi forest, discover the work being done by the University of Birmingham to deliver clean air both here in Birmingham and around the world and how you can get involved.
