Research Seminar
With speaker Professor Stephen Ball, Karl Mannheim Professor of Sociology of Education, Institute of Education, London
The work of Michel Foucault is, for the most part, very partially read and used by educational researchers, he is used as a theorist of domination. Here I want to explore a different reading of Foucault as a theorist of resistance and consider some ways in which his work has a particular and urgent relevance to our experience of current education policy. The presentation will draw in part on my book Foucault, Power and Education (Routledge 2012).
A short rejoinder to this presentation will be provided by Professor Deborah Youdell from the School of Education.
