Join Helena Craig, Chair of Black2Nature, and Jonathan Dean, Associate Professor of Politics at the University of Leeds, to hear about and discuss the politics of birdwatching, as well as find out about the birds you can see on campus.

Helena Craig is a British Bangladeshi birder and conservationist, obsessed with watching them worldwide and saving them. She is Chair of Black2Nature, which aims to give Visible Minority Ethnic people access to nature by making the sector ethnically diverse and relevant to those communities.

Jonathan Dean is Associate Professor of Politics at the University of Leeds, where he is co-director of the Centre for Democratic Engagement. He has been a keen birdwatcher since the age of nine. His main claim to ornithological fame is that he was three times winner of the (now defunct) Young Ornithologist of the Year competition, run by British Birds magazine in the mid to late 90s.

The event, which is part of the Green Festival, will be introduced and chaired by Stephen Bates who is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science & International Studies.

The event is free and open to the public, students and all who work at the University but please register beforehand.

A drinks reception will be held afterwards at 20:30 in the same room.
