Join the Barber, the Lapworth Museum of Geology, and Barber Concerts for a free online family festival full of campus curiosities as we celebrate nature and springtime together.
Let your imagination soar above the clouds in our poetry workshop with writer Sipho Ndlovu - and delve under the earth with the Lapworth to uncover millions of years of secrets.
Become a sound explorer and record noises of nature that you can find around you - and be inspired by the art in our galleries to make your very own 3D landscape!

What might you discover if you use your ears instead of your eyes to find out about the natural world?Explore, listen and record sounds of nature in your local area with sound artists Emma Margetson and Nikki Sheth. The project will result in a collective sound map using your recordings captured around Birmingham and beyond. The Sound Explorers sound map will be launched at the BEAST FEaST 2021 festival, encouraging curiosity through exploration and investigation to promote a love of nature!

We are happy to welcome again spoken word artist and poet, Sipho Eric Ndlovu, for an online zoom workshop designed especially for families as an experience together to encourage creative writing and let our imaginations soar. Be inspired by 'The Pond at Montfoucault' by Camille Pissaro and explore nature through your own words.

Unearth millions of years of secrets hidden in the fossil record. Put on your metaphorical detective hat and join the Lapworth Museum of Geology as we discover what clues fossils can give us about animals and plants of the past. Explore the museum collections and learn what fossil detectives have uncovered about these amazing objects. In this 40-minute talk with Lizzy (Learning and Community Development Officer), learn how fossils form and why fossils are important to our understanding of the past. Participants are able to download an activity sheet which they can complete as we go along.

How does the natural world look from your perspective? Join Rosie from our Learning and Engagement team this Easter holiday as we reflect on our own unique viewpoints to explore significant places from our memories. We’ll create 3D changeable landscapes inspired by the paintings 'A Cascade on the River Liri' and 'A Mother and Child by the Sea' in the Barber’s collection. Get ready to experiment with depth, layering and balance and to recreate your own special point of view.
