Curator Introduction: Taking Root, The Sustaining Life of Trees
- Location
- Barber Institute of Fine Arts
- Dates
- Wednesday 6 July 2022 (13:30-14:00)
Inspired by the 2022 Commonwealth Games theme of Nature, discover this new display that explores European artists’ enduring fascination with trees - some of the most prominent, appealing and even essential features of our landscape.
While they have often been studied to develop artists’ powers of observation, or included as compositional devices mapping the changing seasons, they can also act as monuments to history, heritage and culture, and appear as subjects through which artists explore our ever evolving and increasingly perilous relationships with the natural world.
Join Helen Cobby, Assistant Curator, as she introduces the selection, themes and ideas behind this new display.
All levels and abilities are welcome. This free talk, is open to anyone 18+ and will be held at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts. Limited spaces, so booking is essential.
