How to apply

Choosing to study with the University of Birmingham Dubai is an exciting decision and you may have many questions on what to do next. Follow the steps below to help guide you through the process.

  1. Apply via our course finder pages. Each programme page will take you directly to the admissions portal. Just click ‘apply now’ to begin your application. You will need to submit copies of your qualifications, personal statement, reference, and personal details. There’s no application fee to apply to study with us. 
  2. Your application will be considered. This will take up to 10 working days after your application and supporting documents have been received.
  3. You can track the progress of your application and receive communications from us via the Applicant Portal.
  4. When you accept and meet all the conditions of your offer and pay your tuition fee deposit, we will confirm your place. It’s that easy!

When you apply for a programme via our 'apply now' button you will have the option to upload your supporting documents. The following information will usually be needed before a decision can be made on your application:

MOE equivalency 

All applications for admissions are required to obtain equivalency of their High School or Bachelor degree from the UAE Ministry of Education - Higher Education Affairs.

References

Two academic references (or if appropriate to the programme applied for, one could be from your employer).

Transcripts

Academic transcript(s) for all prior degrees - originals or certified photocopies: 

EU and international applicants - if you are currently studying outside the UAE or have obtained your qualification(s) outside the UAE.

If you are not a recent graduate send certified copy(s) of relevant qualifications. University of Birmingham graduates do not need to provide transcripts or copies of degree certificates, however we advise applicants who graduated prior to 2000 to provide copies of their qualifications as they may take longer to verify. 

English language requirements

Certificate to show competency in the English language if English is not your first language and you have already taken a test.

Personal statement

Personal statement, approximately 5000 characters, explaining why you are interested in studying on your chosen programme. Alternatively, you can type this within your application.

You may also be required to submit further documents e.g., a sample of work or research proposal in support of your application. If this is necessary for a decision to be made on your application, the document will become a mandatory part of your application. 

Supporting documents for Education programmes

References

Two references will be required. One needs to be academic, and one need to be personal. The references should supply supporting evidence in relation to the personal statement and suitability for the course. 

Evidence of qualifications

You need to supply evidence or transcripts of your degree in the medium of English as specified by the entry requirements outlined on the course page. This will normally be a minimum of a 2.2 or equivalent.

If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of IELTS score 6.5 with no less than 6.0 with any band.

Evidence is required of a 2.2 plus for GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent (*primary programme only).

Personal statement

Your personal statement should outline your previous academic achievements and experience of working with children. It should include details of any schools you are already working in or schools you are associated with. You should also include details of what you to gain from the course and how it will help you develop as a teacher (approximately 500 - 700 words).
