Our spin-outs
Our spin-out portfolio continues to grow. Three of our companies, Salinity Solutions, Tagomics and 4D Medicine (all spun out within the last four years) have completed significant equity rounds over the past year, raising a cumulative total of £12.1 million. All three spin-outs were assisted by bridging co-investments from the University of Birmingham.
We have to be especially selective about when the University invests cash, but we did so in these cases. In each case that has helped these spin-outs leverage in additional money from private investors, and also put them in the strongest position as they negotiated subsequent rounds with venture capitalists. Securing this level of investment, in a notably tough investment environment for spin-outs is a testimony both to the quality of the teams and commercial propositions.
