We are writing to provide you with an update on the latest developments for the University of Birmingham’s Pritchatts Park Village.

As mentioned in our last communications in October, we expected activities to begin before Christmas. You may have noticed that Equans, the company delivering the redevelopment on the University’s behalf, has now started to conduct some preliminary building work to prepare Pritchatts Park, with the plan to begin the full construction work on both the accommodation village and the multi-storey carpark in the New Year. The preliminary work predominantly includes deliveries, utility diversions and some excavations work.

We continue to be committed to minimising any disruption for you and to ensuring you are informed throughout this process. We will be inviting you to an open event early in the new year to discuss the details of the development plans with Equans and the University of Birmingham team. We look forward to welcoming you to this event.

Over the next decade, the University of Birmingham’s aspiration is to be established in the top 50 of the world’s leading universities. This ambitious yet achievable plan has world-class research and outstanding global education at its core.

The redevelopment of Pritchatts Park, creating the University’s first net-zero carbon accommodation operation, and the improvement of our facilities including adding more accessible living spaces, plays an integral role in helping the University to achieve this goal.

We are writing to provide a further update to you on the University of Birmingham’s plans for Pritchatts Park Village.

We previously wrote to you in the summer indicating that development works on the site would commence in autumn of this year.  Due to some outstanding issues we are resolving with our construction partner, our start date remains yet to be confirmed, but it now seems very likely there will be no significant activity on site before the New Year. In the interim you may notice some sporadic activity in and around the site as we continue with our preparations.

The University remains committed to this project and supports its desire to attract students and staff locally, nationally and internationally.  The ongoing development and improvement of our facilities plays a key role in our ability to do this.  As you will be aware, the plan is to redevelop Pritchatts Park Village to provide high-quality, sustainable housing for students, as well as additional car parking facilities for staff members.

At this point we want to reiterate my previous commitment that every effort will be made to minimise the impact of the project on our neighbours, and that we’ll keep you informed as much as possible. Our page at www.birmingham.ac.uk/pritchatts-development will be kept up to date as the project progresses, and we also intend to offer some opportunities to discuss the works in more detail at different stages of the project, in particular when we have more detailed information to share.

Dear Neighbour,

We hope you are well. We are writing to provide a further update to you on the University’s plans for Pritchatts Park Village.

As you know, the University of Birmingham is a proud civic university with a global vision. We aim to attract students and staff locally, nationally and internationally, and our facilities play a key role in our ability to do this. Indeed, for many of our students, the University is a home away from home at our three campus accommodation villages located at the Vale, Selly Oak and Pritchatts Park.

As you will be aware, the University is planning to redevelop Pritchatts Park Village to provide high-quality, sustainable housing for students, as well as additional car parking facilities for staff members. We know from previous communications on this project that you may have concerns about the impact the construction project will have on you as our neighbours; however, we wanted to reiterate that every effort will be made to minimise the impact, and that we’ll keep you informed as much as possible.

As such, we are writing to inform you that works on site are now expected to start around autumn 2021. You can find out more about the plans on our website: www.birmingham.ac.uk/pritchatts-development.

The website will be kept up to date as the project progresses, and we also intend to offer some opportunities to discuss the works in more detail at different stages of the project.

I also wanted to update you on a couple of other matters which we have received feedback on from local residents. As part of our commitment to sustainability, you may be interested to know that we have recently installed West Midlands Cycle Hire bike racks and Voi e-scooter parking bays in Pritchatts Park Village. We hope that having the facilities close to you may provide a benefit to those of you who may wish to use them. We also hope this will encourage students to travel in an environmentally friendly way and park the bikes/scooters in suitable locations. We recognise that people leaving scooters inconsiderately in residential streets can be a nuisance so we hope that our new parking bays will reduce this.
