[Peter Aldous MP, Member of Parliament for Waveney, Suffolk] I think it's been very helpful to come here today for the launch of this report on clean energy innovation and I think what it shows to me is that not only is Britain leading the world in decarbonisation but we're also coming up with innovative local solutions that can be rolled out about the whole country.
[Professor Sir Richard Friend, University of Cambridge] What I find so exciting, particularly at the launch event here this evening in London is that we understand that it's good to be green, we need to worry about climate change, it's extremely important but actually it aligns with economic good sense.
[Ian Austin MP, Member of Parliament for Dudley North] This is a really key element to boosting the region's prosperity, to attracting new investment, new industries and new jobs for the future so I'm really excited about this and it's a fantastic event to be at.
[The Rt Hon Claire Perry MP, Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth] I think this is a very interesting step forward in thinking about how you make that energy revolution happen locally and also how you've then set yourselves up as a showcase for how it can be done right across the UK.
[Sir David King, ] Globally we've now got mission innovation set up and I was heavily involved in setting this up and it's currently spending about 17 billion dollars a year on clean energy research going into those areas where we need the new technologies. As we move forward Britain will be a big part of that we thought of it, we got it going and globally others will also be trying to take advantage.
[Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands] Industrial strategy is the most important thing in terms of domestic economic policy for the government local industrial strategy is where the region's have to play their part. I don't know if you know this but the West Midlands and Greater Manchester have been asked to sort of go first in producing their strategies and this has to be a key part of it.
[Philip New, CEO, Energy Systems Catapult] For us the evening has been a great success, wonderful to see so many people bring their time and their energy in to the room and great to see the Mayor and the Minister endorse the work in the way they have.
[Matthew Rhodes, Chair, Energy Capital] This basic idea of energy innovation zones where you can tailor innovative energy technologies to meet the needs of the community and find a model that works for the community and for the country. So it's really exciting evening and really looking forward to taking it forward.
[Philip New] This is looking to harness and promote innovation in a wide range of areas that we need to work on if we're going to transform the energy system.
