Mechanical Engineering admissions video transcript
Hello and thank you for watching this video.
My name is Mehdi Jangi, and I am a lecturer in thermofluid mechanics at the department of mechanical engineering at the University of Birmingham. As the admission tutor for mechanical engineering, and I would like to share with you some information about studying Mechanical Engineering in our school.
Department of Mechanical Engineering is part of the School of Engineering and is located at Edgbaston campus. Within the School, there are departments of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, and Civil Engineering. The Edgbaston campus is at the heart of Birmingham city and close to the city centre. Still, it is one of the biggest and greenest campuses not only in the UK sense of things but also in the international scales.
In terms of facilities, we have newly refurbished our labs. There is the new school of engineering which will be the new home for Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, and Civil Engineering. The new building is planned to open in January 2021. This new building has been particularly designed to provide a student-oriented environment, fully equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities, and loads of area for private and group learning activities.
We have been working hard to create a positive and diverse community of staffs that makes us provide a world-class mechanical degree programme. Majority of our academic staffs of very research active individuals, which regularly published their work in top scientific journals. Many of our academics are a world-leading researcher in their field. Particularly we are very proud of our international repudiation in manufacturing, biomechanical engineering and clean energy technologies. The carefully designed degree programme delivered by these highly qualified academics transforms the way that our students are thinking and acting by the time that they graduate with us. The mechanical engineering logics that our students are developing during their study is what employers love about them. Statistically speaking, 92% of our students are in graduate jobs within six months of their graduations. They usually work in Aerospace and propulsion, advanced manufacturing, renewable energies, automotive and bio-medical company.
I hope this gives an overview of our department and helps you in making a better decision when applying for a university degree.
