Imaging and Analysis Training and Support

COMPARE provides comprehensive support and expertise within imaging and analysis.

Listed below are the areas where we provide support and training:

  • Sample preparation advice
  • Microscope requirements
  • Microscopy training
  • Image acquisition
  • Advanced Image analysis/quantification
  • Preparation of data for publication
  • Grant writing advice
  • Generation of high quality quantitative data using techniques such as FRET, TIRFM, STORM, PALM, single-particle tracking, FCS, SIM, light-sheet illumination

Advanced Imaging Training

For autonomous sessions, all of our systems require users to be fully trained. We also offer assisted sessions.

Please email Edalat Radfar or compare@contacts.bham.ac.uk for initial enquiries.

As part your training, you will also be guided through our booking system (Stratocore).

Project Clinics

Every Wednesday, 11.00-12.00, our team run a project clinic open to all researchers, to discuss future and ongoing projects that may benefit from advanced imaging and/or image analysis. We provide guidance on experimental, instrumentation and analysis. Addtionally,we  can provide advice regarding quantitative analysis and modelling for all project stages from grant/idea development to final publication. We can help with segmentation, tracking, colocalization, denoising/deconvolution, machine learning/AI, , workflow automation.

To book an appointment, please contact us at compare@contacts.bham.ac.uk

Workshops

We organise regular image analysis training and workshops for introductory and intermediate image analysis. We can also offer bespoke training on specialised topics including deep learning/AI and single molecule data analysis.

Image analysis with Fiji

Fiji/ImageJ is a leading open-source image analysis application. This course will briefly cover introductory aspects of image processing and analysis theory, but will focus on practical sessions where participants will gain hands on experience. It is highly recommended for all researchers who regularly use microscopy.

For more information, visit the 'Image Analysis with Fiji' website.

Intermediate Image Analysis

This course will cover common image analysis problems including deconvolution, segmentation, tracking and colocalization analysis. Graphical programming and scripting for workflow automation will also be introduced. The course will focus on practical sessions using leading open source software. Note participants should have attended our introductory course, or have equivalent knowledge.

For more information, visit the 'Intermediate Image Analysis' website.
