College PGR Committee

The purpose of the College PGR Committee is to optimise the support that the College can provide for Doctoral Researchers and their Supervisors in order to maximise the quality and quantity of research output and impact and the quality and success of our Doctoral Graduates, as well as ensuring that the College has a single strategy for Doctoral Researchers and Doctoral Research and ensuring that the vision for Doctoral Researchers as outlined in the University Graduate School document “The Birmingham Researcher” is implemented across the College.

The PGR Committee ensures that Doctoral Researchers, through their elected representatives, have a voice at College level and play an active part in developing support for PG Researchers

Information on the PGR Committee meeting dates can be found on the LES PGR Canvas course.

Representation

PGR Student Reps work closely with academics, university staff and the Guild to feedback and improve the experience of their peers at school, college and university level.

If you’re passionate about your academic experience or want to make a real impact during your time at Birmingham, then why not become a Student Rep? A partnership between the University and the Guild, the Student Rep System is here to empower you to make a difference to teaching and learning in your Schools and Colleges.

Find out more about how to become a PGR Student Rep on the Guild of Students Student Reps Hub webpages.

Details of PGR Reps for your School and College can also be found on the LES PGR Canvas course.

Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES)

The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) is the only national survey for postgraduate research students' experience. It is run every other year by the University, working in partnership with Advance HE and Jisc. Approximately 115 universities and colleges across the UK take part in the survey.

This is your chance to tell the University about your experience as a Postgraduate Researcher here. The survey lets us know what is working well and what's not, helping us make things better. Responses from you help us improve both our current and future support, enabling us to do better for all of our Postgraduate Researchers. Our survey is endorsed by the Guild of Students.

The University's 2019 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey has now closed. The results of the survey, together with the actions taken by the University, will be available by December 2019.
