For over 100 years, the University of Birmingham has played a major part in the success of the city, the region and the world. For almost as long, we have been recognised globally for our support and development of sport, exercise and movement. In May 2017, the University opened its £55 million University of Birmingham Sport & Fitness club at the heart of Edgbaston. The club caters for thousands of community members, teams and groups.
The club provides world-class opportunities for everyone in the region and offers an unrivalled fitness experience. The facility includes Birmingham’s first 50m swimming pool, a large multi-sports arena, six glass-backed squash courts, a 200-station gym, a 10m climbing wall, a Performance Centre and five activity studios; where over 150 classes a week are held. From Body Pump to Yoga, classes are designed for mixed ability and there is a huge variety to choose from. If you’re keen on cardio, check out Indoor Cycling, or Body Combat for a high-energy workout. There are toning and holistic group exercise classes for those who want to build on their flexibility and strength, and even a range of Aqua classes in the new pool, perfect for challenging your fitness levels and suitable for all ages and abilities.
Memberships are available to community members, so check out the website for more details – you can also join our mailing list for more information. There are plenty of ways to get involved - as well as classes, why not try out a new sport (or pick up an old one!) with our Try A Sport offering? These 60 minute sessions are designed to develop skills and help you to discover new passions for a sport you may not have tried before, and there are many available - from Basketball to Badminton, from Weightlifting to Touch Tennis. If you already know what sport you love, why not enquire about joining a sports Club? Plus, all our new pitches, courts and arenas are also available to book out for your own use.
