This module will introduce students to the normal physiological functioning of the body, focusing on the muscular, nervous, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Lectures will be supported by a practical physiology lab session. Physiotherapy-specific lectures will continue in semester 2, exploring changes in normal physiology resulting from inflammation, soft tissue and bone injury, degenerative joint conditions and mechanisms of healing and repair. The physiological basis of pain and the control of normal movement will be introduced. Application of physiological principles to the understanding of electro-physical modalities will be explored and students will undertake practical skills sessions in their use and application.
