Offer-holder visit days

Meet staff and current students from your subject area

Our applicant and offer-holder events give you the opportunity to explore our green and spacious campus.

We know that visiting the University plays a really important part in your decision-making process – we know that if you visit, you’ll love it here as much as we do!

During your offer-holder event, you'll get the chance to meet staff and current students from your subject area, get all of your questions answered and learn all you need to know about what makes your course at Birmingham special. You'll get a taste of what life is like on campus and you can explore the vibrant, diverse student city of Birmingham.

My favourite part of campus, and the thing that makes it so special, is the atmosphere. It is such an open, welcoming and inclusive space. From relaxing on the Green Heart with great views of Old Joe to watching sports matches down at Bournbrook Pitches, there is always something happening.

How to book your Offer-Holder Visit Day

If the department you have applied to runs an offer-holder event, you'll receive an invitation via email shortly after you are made an offer. This will link to a booking form to sign up for an event at a date and time that suits you. We’ll send you a confirmation email within 24 hours of receiving your booking. Please check your junk/spam folder. If you don't receive an email within 24 hours, please get in touch with your department.

Many subject areas hold offer-holder events, and others conduct interview days instead.

Tips to plan your day

  • Each Offer-Holder Visit Day is run by individual departments so be sure to check your schedule provided in your confirmation and reminder emails to see what time the sessions are running.
  • Alongside subject activities, we will also host a range of support sessions to help you feel better prepared for university. These activities will take place between 9am and 4pm and will include opportunities such as viewing accommodation and speaking with our dedicated support services.
  • Our campus is one of the largest in the UK so it can take 10-15 minutes to walk from one side of campus to the other. We would encourage you to allow enough time to walk to your activities and event so you can arrive on time.
  • When it's time to refuel, head to one of our catering outlets around campus. From spicy burritos and salad bowls to takeaway sandwiches and sweet treats, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Bringing your family and friends

You're welcome to bring one other person with you to share your Offer-Holder Visit Day experience. Please be aware that some activities will be for students only - there will be talks, activities or discussion opportunities provided for family or friends coming with students whilst these take place.

You only need to make one booking to cover yourself and any guests accompanying you. Please use the name and email address of the prospective student when making your booking.

We welcome dogs on campus and they are permitted in all outside spaces.

Visit our student accommodation

A small selection of our accommodation will be open for guided tours between 9am and 4pm, and is just a short 15 minute walk from campus. We've had to limit what we can show you due to halls currently being occupied.

We recommend that you arrive a little earlier if your subject activity takes place in the afternoon. If your session is in the morning, please allow some time in the afternoon to explore accommodation on the day.

You can view a larger number of our different accommodation types online via our 360 tours.

The Vale Village

Explore Birmingham city centre

Cadbury’s chocolate, The Bullring, Peaky Blinders, the Balti – all things synonymous with our city. Yet Birmingham has so much more to offer than this. We are so proud of our city and our students love being close to the hustle and bustle it has to offer.

Our campus is only seven minutes from the city centre by train, so there's plenty of time to visit after your Offer-Holder Visit Day is over. There's lots of lovely places to grab a bite to eat before you head home.

Alternatively, there's plenty of fun activities and places to explore:

Train travel

The easiest way to reach the University is by train. Birmingham is the only University campus in mainland UK to have its own railway station - ‘University’ station. The journey takes approximately 7 minutes from Birmingham New Street .

Please note: the new redeveloped University railway station opened in January 2024; the former station building is now exit-only and cannot be used to gain access onto the platforms. Passengers wishing to enter the station should do so via the entrances in the new station building. This is to help control the flow of passengers through the station and avoid queues. If you are visiting the new station building for the first time please allow additional time to familiarise yourself with the new entrance/exit arrangements.

For up-to-date information on train times and prices, please contact National Rail.

Coach and bus travel

There are frequent express coach services to Birmingham from London, Heathrow and Gatwick airports and many other UK cities. The long-distance coach station is in Digbeth in the city centre, this is just a 12-minute walk from Birmingham New Street station or a 15-minute taxi ride to our Edgbaston campus.

If you are travelling from within the West Midlands, then the following bus services stop at different parts of the University’s main Edgbaston campus, as well as the Vale Village accommodation site and the Selly Oak campus.

Bus service numbers: 1, 1A, 48, 61, 63, 76, X20, X21, X22

Further information is available on the National Express West Midlands website.

Clean Air Zone in Birmingham

Clean Air Zones have been introduced to cities across the UK, including Birmingham. Unlike a congestion charge, such as the one in London which charges every vehicle to enter a designated area, the Clean Air Zone will only charge the most polluting vehicles. If you are travelling through the centre of Birmingham then you will need to bear this in mind.

For more information and to see if your car is exempt from the Clean Air Zone charge visit the Brum Breathes website.

Directions to the University

There is further information on our website detailing how to get to the University, as well as downloadable maps of campus.

Overnight accommodation

If you're considering staying in Birmingham and exploring our beautiful city, why not stay on the University campus itself in the University’s very own hotel – the Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre.

Alternatively please see the Visit Birmingham website to explore other accommodation options across the city.

Accessibility on campus

Campus access

We have implemented a programme of accessibility adaptations on campus. All new buildings are being designed with accessibility in mind. Our team of staff and student ambassadors will be able to help direct you to our accessible routes across campus.

We have dedicated parking bays on campus for Blue Badge holders and all new buildings and major campus developments are being designed with accessibility in mind. Please contact us to discuss any requirements and we can advise.
