This degree programme is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council, as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

This course is delivered in intense week-long modules. This term modules are typically run between September and January. All modules are compulsory and cover core subjects such as geotechnics, synoptic engineering, and financial decision making.

The taught element of your course takes place between September and May, and your individual research project will be undertaken from May to September. You can transfer from the Postgraduate Diploma to the MSc programme, upon completion of the Postgraduate Diploma, providing you satisfy the MSc requirements.
This course is made up of a total of 180 credits, 120 of which are from taught modules. A research project forms the basis of the remaining 60 credits.

To gain a place at Birmingham you will need to meet our general entry requirements, as well as those specific to your course. Your application will be reviewed by the course’s Admissions Tutor, who will decide whether your application should receive an offer.

It’s available for all full-time, part-time and distance learning Masters programmes, as long as you don’t already have a Masters qualification (or equivalent).If you’re a student from Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can apply for Masters loans from your country’s government.
