    Meet Millie

I’m Millie, I’m from a small town in Devon and I took Anthropology and African Studies at university. My family have always been open and interested in different ways of living, and so a degree that explored the variety of different ways people live around the world was perfect for me!

It may sound like a change from anthropology, but I currently work with children with disabilities. I’m also interested in going into play therapy, and I think the open-mindedness that’s involved with studying anthropology will help me in this pursuit.

How did your time at Birmingham help you to get to where you are today?

My time at Birmingham has helped me to develop my skills and confidence as an adult. Living away from home and experiencing a year abroad made me embrace my own agency and how much I could do by myself.

What are you most proud of from your time at Birmingham?

Probably my year abroad! But mostly I’m proud of the entire degree, it took a lot of hard work and focus.

What's one piece of advice you can share for incoming students?

I’d say to explore all the opportunities given to you - everyone starts university in the same boat, and by going to all the taster sessions and organised activities you can, you’ll really get the most of it all and get to meet new people.

Where do you hope to see yourself in a year's time?

In a year’s time, I think I’ll be travelling in Australia, doing casual work before I get back into education to study play therapy.
