Accommodation for Presessional Students

Presessional applications are now open via our Accommodation Portal.

This page covers everything you need to know about securing accommodation for the duration of your Presessional English for Academic Purposes course and beyond. Below you’ll find key dates and application deadlines, as well as information on how to apply for accommodation, broken down into four easy steps.

Living at University of Birmingham

Moving to a new country to study is exciting, but it can be a little daunting too. At University of Birmingham, you’ll receive all the support you need to settle into your new home. Our friendly team will be on hand 24/7 to assist you and all our residences have 24-hour security for extra reassurance.  

As part of your accommodation fees, you will be provided with an essentials pack which will be in your room ready for your arrival. This pack will include crockery and cutlery, a duvet, a pillow, and full linen set. In addition, you will receive kitchen pots and cooking utensils to use – please note these will be shared with all students in your flat.

Your accommodation fees will also include all utility bills (electricity, heating, etc.), Wi-Fi and basic room insurance for the duration of your stay.

Securing your accommodation

It’s easy to apply for your accommodation online via the Accommodation Portal. To get started, you’ll need to create a new account. You’ll then be able to apply for and secure your room for the 2025/26 academic year too.

1. Apply for Presessional accommodation

Presessional applications are now open from Friday 28th February via our Accommodation Portal.

If you are studying on the 20 or 15 week Presessional course, once you have completed your application you will be contacted by the Student Living team within 7 working days of submitting your application with an offer of accommodation. Please note, some contracts will require students to transfer into an alternative room from the 13th July for the remainder of their stay up until the 13th September 2025. Once students have secured their room, if they are required to transfer, the Student Living team will be in contact with them directly in May 2025 with more information on how to secure their extension accommodation booking.

If you are applying for a 10, 6 or 4 week Presessional course, once you have completed your application you will be invited to book your room form the beginning of May 2025.

If you book a room with us for the academic year 2025/26, we can confirm that you will be housed for the period between your presessional and full academic year contracts. Please rest assured that a member of the team will be in contact nearer the time with more details regarding this.

2. Book your room

20 and 15 week Presessional

Once you have completed your application, you will receive an offer of accommodation from Student Living within 7 working days. Please note, some contracts will require students to transfer into an alternative room from the 13th July for the remainder of their stay up until the 13th September 2025. Once students have secured their room, if they are required to transfer, the Student Living team will be in contact with them directly in May 2025 with more information on how to secure their extension accommodation booking.

10, 6 and 4 week Presessional

Our rooms are available on a first-come-first-served basis via our online booking system. Therefore, we recommend booking your chosen room as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

To access the system, you’ll need to select the ‘2025 Presessional (EAP)’ classification from the options menu. You’ll then be able to browse all the accommodation available, filter your search, and add your chosen room to your basket.

3. Pay for your room

To secure your chosen room, you will need to pay in full at checkout. Unfortunately, we cannot accept bank transfers.

Our Presessional accommodation from July will be priced from £145 per week for a shared bathroom and from £195 per week for an ensuite room.

4. Apply for 2025/26 accommodation

To ensure you have everything you need at your fingertips for when your undergraduate or postgraduate studies begin, don’t forget to apply for 2025/26 accommodation.

To ensure that you have your accommodation secured for the start of the new academic year we would also encourage you to submit a 2025/26 accommodation application:

Undergraduate:

  • Apply for 2025/2026 Undergraduate term as a ‘Undergraduate – New Student’
  • Once complete, you will then receive further communication from our team regarding securing a room, from the 14 August 2025.

Postgraduate:

  • Apply for 2025/2026 Postgraduate term as a ‘Postgraduate – New Student’
  • Once complete, you will then be invited to book your room immediately after.

So long as you submit your accommodation application by 31 July 2025 you will be guaranteed the opportunity to book a room for the 2025/26 academic year.
