Apply for accommodation

You can apply for accommodation as soon as you have your offer letter. We encourage you to do this even if Birmingham is your insurance choice.

To get started, you’ll need to launch the Student Living Portal and select the ‘First time login’ option from the navigation. Simply follow the steps detailed on there and you’ll be ready to apply via your account.

Don’t worry if you don’t have access right away; it can take up to 48 hours from receiving your offer letter for our systems to process your information. If you’re still unable to login after this time, please get in touch.

We guarantee all new undergraduates, international postgraduates, full year study abroad and exchange students the opportunity to book a room in our accommodation.

Simply apply for accommodation online before the deadline to guarantee your place. This is 30 June for UK undergraduates and 31 July for non-UK undergraduates and postgraduate students.

If you miss the deadline, you can still apply for accommodation with us but we can’t guarantee that you’ll receive an offer.

If we have availability, we’ll find the closest match available for you. If not, we’ll ensure you receive the support you need to find accommodation in the private sector.

Once you have applied, you will receive all the information you need to book online, including the dates that you can book your room from.

Booking your room at the University of Birmingham is now easier than ever before. Rather than us allocating your accommodation, you can now choose the exact room to suit you, ensuring you feel at home from day one.

If you are a prospective, new, or current student under the age of 18 at the start of your contract, please be aware that we will contact you and send you a personalised manual offer, and we will do our best to match your preference.

As you will be able to choose your own room from the booking process, we no longer require 'additional preferences' for allocations.

Once you’ve found your perfect room, all that’s left to do is pay the £550 Advance Payment and the room’s all yours! Alternatively, you can pay for your accommodation fees in full.

Please note that the Advance Payment is an initial instalment towards your accommodation fees, not a deposit, which means that it won’t be refunded to you at the end of your contract.

If you’ve chosen a room with one of our partners, you may be required to pay an Advance Payment or a deposit to secure your room. They’ll be in touch as soon as you’ve completed your booking.
