Anne-Marie is the Deputy Director of Education for the College of Social Sciences, and Professor of Social Work in the Department of Social Work and Social Care. She is a qualified and registered Social Worker, with a background in statutory Children & Family and Youth Justice social work practice. Anne-Marie’s areas of practice interest include leadership, children and family social work, and inter-professional working. Her research focuses on the meanings of relationships within partnership-based Social Work Education. 

Anne-Marie is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a HEFi Scholar. She is also a member of Social Work England’s National Advisory forum and a member of University Senate.

Biography

Anne-Marie has held a number of leadership roles including School Head of Quality, Academic Director for a Post Graduate social work programme, and interim Head of Department. She teaches on a number of qualifying social work programmes, and works with students undertaking the Senior Leaders Level 7 Degree Apprenticeship Programme. Anne-Marie is the University Co-lead and cohort Director for the Strengths Based Leadership programme in partnership with the Social Care Institute for Excellence. Anne-Marie also supports and mentors colleagues, including those undertaking the UoB Beacon scheme for Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Prior to joining the University of Birmingham, Anne-Marie was a Lecturer at the University of Salford, Manchester, and Programme Leader for the PQ Professional Studies Childcare Award. Before this she was a Local Authority Staff Development and Training Manager, following a number of years in statutory Social Work practice.
