Dr Felicia Ziparo is a research fellow in Astronomy working on groups and clusters of galaxies. Felicia’s main interests focus on using observational data from different telescopes (mainly optical and infrared) to shed light on the physical processes affecting galaxy evolution in different environments. In order to complement the results achieved with the observations, she is also interested in comparing the observational results with predictions from simulations.

Felicia’s research also includes gravitational lensing analysis mainly via the supervision of post-graduate students.

Felicia is directly involved in outreach activities, in particular she is part of the organising team of “Astronomy in the City”, a monthly public event at the School of Physics and Astronomy.

Qualifications

  • Postdoc at the University of Birmingham, 2013
  • Postdoc at Max Planck Institute for Extra-terrestrial Physics, 2012
  • PhD at Max Planck Institute for Extra-terrestrial Physics, 2012

Postgraduate supervision

Felicia supervises postgraduate students in galaxy evolution and gravitational lensing.

Research

Felicia’s research focuses on:

  • Galaxy groups and clusters and their large-scale structure
  • Galaxy evolution as a function of environment
  • Cosmic decline of star formation
  • Gravitational lensing
