Mian M. Hamayun is Associate Professor and Head of Programmes at University of Birmingham Dubai campus. He is interested in Transaction Level Modeling (TLM) and Simulation of MPSoC Systems, Performance Estimation, Binary Translation and topics related to Cloud Computing (Virtualization, GPGPU Computing, Internet of Things / Vehicles). He has published a number of research articles in journals and conferences of high repute in the respective domains.

His teaching interests include Operating Systems & Networks, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Parallel Computing, Functional Programming, Theories of Computation, Automata and Formal Languages.

Biography

Mian M. Hamayun completed his Master of Software Engineering degree (with Distinction and Gold Medals) from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan, in 2005. He went on to study Parallel and Distributed Systems at Joseph Fourier University and completed his Master of Science in Informatics degree in 2009. He further pursued his PhD research in System Modeling and Simulation form Grenoble University, France, and graduated in 2013.

The title of his PhD dissertation was "Native Simulation and Modeling of Multi-Processor System-on-a-Chip (MPSoC) using Hardware-Assisted Virtualization". During his doctoral research, he worked on Transaction Level Modeling (TLM), Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) and Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) architecture simulation, Design Space Exploration (DSE) and Software Performance Estimation techniques in embedded systems.

He joined University of Birmingham Dubai in September 2018 and is currently serving as the Head of Computer Science (Dubai). Previously, he has worked as an Assistant Professor at NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), Islamabad, Pakistan (2014-18), as Virtualization R&D Engineer at Virtual Open Systems, Grenoble, France (2013-14), as Lecturer at the University Institute of Technology 1 (IUT1), Joseph Fourier University, Grenoble, France, and as Senior Software Engineer at Streaming Networks, Islamabad, Pakistan (2005-2008).
