A multi-instrumentalist, and former professional musician, Phil Anderson trained to become a secondary music teacher at the University of East London in 2012. After three years of teaching in the borough of Hackney, Phil left for a position in Dubai, becoming a departmental head at a local through school.
After completing his master’s in education at the University of Sheffield, Phil moved into the Higher Education sector in 2019, becoming a lecturer in Education and Early Childhood Studies at Middlesex University Dubai. He quickly moved up, becoming the Assistant Campus Programme Co-ordinator for Undergraduate Education, and lead for the Masters Dissertation Programme.
Phil began his PhD in Primary teacher musical confidence in 2020, a lifelong interest from when he used to volunteer at the school where his mother was a teacher. His ongoing interests are in the role of creativity and arts learning in the classroom, as well as technology adoption.
Phil started working at the University of Birmingham Dubai in 2023. He is an active member of the research committee at the University of Birmingham Dubai and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
