Andrew Jupp obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Oxford (2012-2016) under the supervision of Professor Jose Goicoechea. He worked on phosphorus-containing analogues of the cyanate anion and urea, for which he was awarded the 2015 Reaxys Ph.D. Prize in Hong Kong.
He subsequently won a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship to work with Professor Doug Stephan at the University of Toronto (2016-2018), exploring the synthesis and reactivity of main-group Lewis acids and bases, and the conversion of greenhouse gases such as CO2.
Andy then secured an NWO-VENI grant to pursue independent research at the Van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences, University of Amsterdam (2018-2020), working under the mentorship of Associate Professor Chris Slootweg on the formation and characterisation of main-group radicals.
Dr Jupp was appointed as a University of Birmingham Fellow in July 2020, and commenced a Royal Society university Research Fellowship in January 2021, working on a range of topics around main-group chemistry and sustainability. Andy was promoted to Associate Professor in 2024.
