Dr Rana's research is driven by a commitment to understanding the mechanistic foundations of biological systems. Dr Rana develops and applies advanced mathematical models to examine state-specific properties and heterogeneity in complex cell populations, with a particular focus on stochastic processes and Machine Learning. Dr Rana has developed computational tools that help explore state transitions, genomic aberrations, and mutational processes. By integrating systems biology approaches with Bayesian non-parametric methods and machine learning data integration techniques, Dr Rana aims to better understand the interplay of genetic and epigenetic information underlying disease progression, ultimately contributing to new hypotheses for diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
Dr Rana is the Deputy Section Lead for Data Science and Bioinformatics.
Dr Rana is the Programme Lead for Bioinformatics Online and teach a few modules across MSc Bioinformatics and MSc Health Data Science deliveries.
