Kelly Rogers is Assistant Professor of Leadership within the Department of Management at the Birmingham Business School, contributing a wealth of experience and commitment to the academic community.
In her current role, Kelly's dedication to advancing education is evident through her ongoing exploration of decolonisation and past involvement in PRME projects with partner universities. During her tenure as a Senior Lecturer in Management at the Birmingham City Business School, Birmingham City University (BCU), she took on a crucial role as the Course Leader for flagship Business Management programs, steering their academic direction to align with industry needs and academic standards. Her responsibilities extended to successfully leading modules such as Business Research Project, One Planet Issues, and Contemporary Management Issues.
In addition to her Course Leader role, Kelly supervised dissertations at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including those for the Executive MBA.
At BCU, Kelly also held the position of Academic College Lead for Teaching Excellence and Student Experience, furthering initiatives to enhance teaching and learning across undergraduate and postgraduate Business Management programs. She played a key role in aligning teaching strategies with institutional priorities, emphasising authentic assessment, Diversity and Inclusion, graduate outcomes, and transition programs.
Before joining BCU, Kelly held leadership positions in Further Education colleges, including the role of Head of School of Higher Education. In this capacity, she provided academic management for university-level courses, overseeing a multidisciplinary team of Course Leaders and Lecturers across multiple campuses. Kelly's responsibilities included managing partnerships with numerous universities and fostering strong links with organisations such as the University of Birmingham, BCU, Wolverhampton University, De Montfort University, and Newman University.
With 15 years of experience in the Further Education sector, Kelly also served as Curriculum Manager of Teacher Education & Training, and held the role of Digital Leader, supporting curriculum teams in the effective utilisation of ICT and ILT in teaching, learning, and assessment.
Kelly's teaching expertise spans leadership development, navigating the 21st Century, and management, including level 7 CMI modules and modules addressing contemporary leadership and management challenges. Beyond the classroom, she has chaired Boards of Studies and Examination Boards, led Quality Assurance processes, and significantly contributed to QAA inspections and TEF submissions.
Before transitioning to working in education, Kelly spent eight years in the travel industry, both leisure and corporate, working for and with companies including Thomas Cook, American Express, Airbus and BAE Systems.
Holding an EdD in Educational Leadership, her doctoral research focused on leadership and management in Further Education colleges, forming the foundation for ongoing projects and contributions to the field.
