This theme addresses sport participation and performance at multiple levels - from (in)active young children, to coaching, to elite athletes - to advance knowledge on the mechanisms, determinants, consequences, and political systems of sport for health, performance, social missions, and policy.

The theme draws on international expertise across a number of areas including physiology, nutrition, sociology, pedagogy, psychology and behavioural medicine, physiotherapy, and motor control to produce cutting edge science on sport that is relevant for society and performance enhancement. It provides fundamental scientific research, mixed-methods research, evaluations, interventions, reviews, and complementary critical insights into sport.
