Nathaniel completed his PhD in Philosophy in 2018. His thesis considers the place of language in Ernst Bloch's speculative materialism, and situates Bloch’s theorisation of language in the Marxist and Continental tradition. Nathaniel has been a Visiting Fellow at the Hegel Archive, Bochum, the Walter Benjamin Archive, Berlin, and the Ernst Bloch Centre, Ludwigshafen.
He is currently preparing a chapter for a forthcoming publication with Routledge: "Anticipation, Creativity and Design", and he is editing his PhD thesis for publication with Brill as part of its Ernst Bloch Bibliothek Series. From 1 September 2019 to 31 May 2020, Nathaniel will be a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Modern Languages Research and the Ernst Bloch Centre for German Thought at the School of Advanced Studies, University of London. There he will be conducting research on Enzo Traverso’s concept of “post-fascism”.
