Meena Plappert is the programme manager for the ‘Achieving Closure’ project, exploring what happens to older people and care staff when care homes close, how best to manage closures in a way that minimises negative outcomes for older people and families, and key lessons for Councils as they manage future closures. She provides management to members of the research team while closely liaising with the management team and is responsible for the co-ordination the five workpackages across the research sites, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and administrative requirements.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Genetic Epidemiology, University of Birmingham
  • MSc in Genetic Epidemiology, University of Sheffield
  • BSc (Hons) in Microbiology, University of Leeds

Biography

After completing an MSc in Genetic Epidemiology at the University of Sheffield, Meena started a PhD in the department of Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Birmingham. She set up the Birmingham Prostatic Neoplasms Association Study (BiPAS) as part of her PhD, investigating the determinants of prostate cancer. She investigated the role of a number of environmental and genetic risk factors in the disease. She then went on to manage a large cohort study looking at bladder cancer recurrence and progression. She has worked on a number of randomized controlled trials investigating hypertension, stroke prevention and more recently managed a large NIHR funded programme grant in mental health.
