BNurs Nursing | 3rd Year Student
I didn’t have any ground-breaking story that made me want to be a nurse. I wanted to work with children, I have always wanted to work with children. I also wanted to be able to make a difference to their lives. Which led me to two ideas, teacher or nurse. I didn’t have the most positive experience at school which influenced me to lean more towards nursing. I did health and social care at college which set this more in stone for me, I was so interested in the more nurse focussed subjects.
I had been in hospital as a child and was very well looked after and remember the nurse putting the “magic cream” on me. I wanted to do that for other children. Being able to help children and their families in their biggest time of need, they rely on you and when you can help them in that time of need it is the most rewarding feeling in the world.
“I have always loved children, I enjoy the interaction with them and I want to be able to help make children’s lives better.”
My training has been very unique and posed its own set of challenges to the average student. Getting cancer, having to go off sick and then come back to a different cohort has been the most difficult part. However, the University have tried to make this as easy as possible for me and have been very flexible in helping me through that phase.
My Fiancé Daniel, who is also a student children’s nurse, is always encouraging me and motivating me to take new opportunities and to push myself above and beyond what I think I am capable of. Eventually, I am hoping to get a job as a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse and then possibly move onto research afterwards.
