Boasting over 60 societies, sports teams and charities, MedSoc really does have something for everyone. Whether you have a strong interest in a particular activity or even a hidden talent, you are guaranteed to have a good time by getting involved. With theatre, dance, singing and comedy all covered there are plenty of ways to express yourself.
MedSoc also has a jam-packed social events calendar to ensure that you are never short of something to do in your spare time. From weekend trips to famous European cities, fun-filled nights out, go karting, ice skating, comedy club nights or camping trips, there will always be something for you to join in with.
The highlight of the MedSoc social calendar is the annual MedBall where over 1,500 guests enjoy an evening of live music, excellent dining and fantastic entertainment.

International Student Society
A dedicated international society for international students studying at Birmingham Medical School. Starting university can be daunting and it is particularly difficult for international students whom are often thousands of miles away from home.
As a member of the International Society you will be able to meet international students across all years who can offer invaluable advice on living away from home and coping with the demands of your course. If you’re an international student, this is likely to become your second family.

Getting involved with the sports that you love is easy with MedSoc. MedSoc sports teams are flexible enough to fit around your busy study timetable and cater for all abilities. Whether you are keen to keep up with an existing passion, or find a new one, you are welcome to join whatever level you are at.
To add a bit of competitive flavour, some teams compete in the National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) tournaments against teams from other universities. In addition to the sporting activities, MedSoc sports organise many memorable nights out for you to enjoy with your team mates.

MedSoc Charities
Alongside everything else offered in MedSoc, the society engage in fundraising and supporting lots of great causes both locally and further afield. Below are just some of the charities they support:
- Docs Not Cops – advocating for migrants’ rights to healthcare in the NHS
- Friends of Birmingham Children’s Hospital – helping young patients at the local Children’s Hospital feel as comfortable as possible during their hospital stay
- Global Brigades – internationally empowering communities in poverty to reach self-sustainability, encourage partnership and collaboration between professionals, volunteers and communities, and reduce inequalities with a holistic approach.
- MedMinds – promoting awareness of mental health and wellbeing
- Friends of Medicines Sans Frontieres – supporting MSF as they face global medical and humanitarian injustice
- Saving Lives – promoting the uptake of HIV and STI testing amongst at risk UK communities
- Street Doctors – aiming to eliminate youth violence by teaching basic life support and educating in the consequences of knife crime
- Teddy Bear Hospital Society – teaching local children about taking care of their health whilst dispelling any healthcare fears
- Widening Access to Medical Sciences Society (BWAMS) – supporting and inspiring students from all backgrounds to pursue healthcare careers
