My main current interests are with the new generation of computer aided assessment software. How can such software be used to engender an active engagement with the course material? How does computer aided assessment interact with the learning activity, and can it contribute to the development of independent learners? How to create good questions for mathematics tests and how to create good tests?

I have played a major part in the introduction of computer aided assessment, using the AiM system and later the STACK system, in the core curriculum of the degree programmes.

I have been one of the nominees (from the University of Birmingham) for the National Teaching Fellowship.
