Histories of Conversion and Aversion 'Therapies' in an International Context

Join us for an interdisciplinary panel discussion on the international histories of conversion and aversion ‘therapies’

Engaging with the University of Birmingham's ongoing research into its institutional history connected to these practices, this panel of experts will also situate this history in its contemporary context and the current struggle to ban harmful reorientation activities aimed at lgbtq+ people in Britain.

Panellists include:

Dr Kate Davison (DAAD Lecturer in Queer History, Goldsmiths/ University of Edinburgh)

Dr Katherine Hubbard (Senior Lecturer, Sociology, University of Surrey)

Dr Sarah Marks (Senior Lecturer, History, Birkbeck University)

Professor Helen Spandler (Mental Health Studies, University of Central Lancashire)

Chaired by Dr Mo Moulton (History, University of Birmingham) and sponsored by the Birmingham Research Institute for History & Cultures and the College of Arts & Law.
