Title of PhD: Exploring the Potential of High Mass Resolution and Mass Accuracy Mass Spectrometric Techniques to Track the Environmental Metabolism and Fate of Brominated Flame Retardants: Application to Human Exposure

Supervisor: Professor Stuart Harrad

Khanh Hoang Nguyen is undertaking doctoral research about metabolites and fates of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in the environments. This research includes collection of dust, food and breast milk samples, extraction and clean-up methods including ASE and SPE and subsequent analysis via LC-Orbitrap MS. He will also carry out in-vitro experiments using rat liver microsomes to identify potential metabolites of BFRs in real samples.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Analytical Chemistry (Vietnam, 2012)
  • Master in Environmental Engineering (South Korea, 2014)

Biography

Khanh Hoang Nguyen studied analytical chemistry at Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University, and spent 6 months at Dioxin Laboratory, Vietnam Environment Administration, to write his thesis in 2012. He then undertook master program in environmental engineering in South Korea.

Khanh Hoang Nguyen’s PhD is funded by European Commission under Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions - Research Fellowship Programme.
