Eleni Mariou is the Programme Director of the MSc TESOL Education.
Before joining the School of Education in 2014, Eleni worked as a Teaching Fellow in TESOL at the University of Edinburgh, and also was an Associate Tutor on the distance-learning MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL programme at the University of Leicester for several years. Eleni has extensive experience teaching English for General, Academic and Specific purposes in the UK and Greece. She has also been involved in General Education teacher training programmes, working as an assessor and research associate, and has previously held a temporary lecturing post at Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, teaching on the BEd Primary Education programme.
Her research interests are situated in the areas of multilingualism in educational and social contexts, language education, language ideology and discourse, and the cultural and political implications of English as an International Language. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
