David works in the Initial Teacher Education team as a lecturer in Secondary Mathematics Education. He teaches on the PGDipEd (QTS) Secondary Mathematics programme. David also supervises students on the MA Teaching Studies programme. He previously worked with the Outreach team offering mathematics support to a range of schools and students across the West Midlands.
David completed his own Initial Teacher Education at the University of Birmingham. His department won the TES award for ‘Maths Team of The Year 2015’ for their innovative approaches to teaching mathematics. He has also worked as a head of department where students of all abilities achieved excellent progress.
David has a lot of experience teaching groups of mixed prior attainment and he used this experience in 2016 when he contributed lesson materials for the EEF funded project on Best Practice in Mixed-Attainment Teaching. This work was awarded the 2016 BCF-BERA Routledge Curriculum Journal Prize.
