Known as the ‘Garden of England’ Dr. Mustafa completed her early years of education in Ramsgate, Kent, after which she started her career working for an international Italian fashion house at their headquarters in south-west London. There, she grasped all key functions of the business and focused on marketing and merchandising luxury bespoke garments in over 100 countries.
Dr. Mustafa became interested in learning about the key HR functions and trends in the organisation, and went on to complete her Master's degree in Human Resource Management while continuing her professional career in London.
In 2010, Dr. Mustafa completed her Ph.D. at the University of London, focusing on the concept of remote work. She conducted research on remote workers in the UK, France, and the US. Her expertise in the subject of remote working led her to win an award for a government policy paper for the Federal Authority for Human Resource and Emiratisation (FAHRI), where she provided key recommendations and explored remote working and employee happiness. Her work on remote working has been published in scholarly journals such as the International journal of Human Resource Management (IJHRM) and new technology work and employment journal and was again highlighted during the pandemic by the IJHRM in their special issue on remote work.
Dr. Mustafa is specialised in employee wellness, and work place health and safety where she studied with the United Nations’ International Labour Organisation. She is a certified mental Health first aid instructor from the UK supporting employees and organisations to promote wellbeing at work.
Dr. Mustafa believes that it is paramount to link academia with industry and continues to do so by creating the future of work podcast series where she visits organisations and spends time to learn about businesses and the key HR trends. These collaborations included Microsoft, IBM, Pepsi Co, PWC, Uniliver and the Ritz Carlton as well as a number of SMEs in the UAE.
