Molly, a first year BSc Biological Sciences (Zoology) student, talks about her experiences of attending an applicant visit day and studying at the University of Birmingham.

Hi, I’m Molly and I’m studying Zoology at the University of Birmingham. Last year when I was deciding what to choose for my firm offer I went to the applicant visit days and Birmingham really stood out for me. I went to a sample lecture and the lecturer who gave it was just so engaging, he was so passionate about the subject, it really made me want to learn it. And so then we looked round the campus and toured the school and it was just amazing. I think it was the labs that we went and looked round and it was mainly the size, like wow, this is where I really want to study.
The advice that I’d give to applicants making their firm choice now would be to really look at the course and there’s a lot of information about it on the Birmingham website and in Birmingham especially you can do so much and the range of activities and things outside the curriculum so you can do stuff from arts to sports, anything you’re interested in. If there’s not already a society you can make one up. But the course is what you are doing for the three years and it’s got to be something that you really love.
The City of Birmingham is just a five minute train journey away as we’ve got our own university station and there’s so many things you can do in the day. And also the night life of Birmingham is brilliant. We’ve got some of the biggest clubs in the country. Also Cadbury’s World is just ten minutes away, which is what more could you want?
