HUST- Birmingham Partnership in China

A partnership between Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan and the University of Birmingham in the UK provides the opportunity for students to study in China and receive a dual degree from HUST and the University of Birmingham.

Earn Dual Degrees in Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy

The new joint programme will allow students to gain a BSc Biomedical Sciences Honours degree from the University of Birmingham and a Pharmacy degree from HUST over the course of 4 years. Graduates will benefit from holding qualifications in two subjects from two internationally respected universities.

Launching in 2025 and set in the brand-new HUST International Campus in Wuhan, students will study both programmes in parallel, gaining knowledge and experience in both subjects over a shorter amount of time than would be required if studying the individual degree programmes. This collaboration by the universities means that students will have exposure to different study and teaching techniques as well as benefiting from the wide range of expertise held by the international team of teaching staff.

Over 20 Years of Successful Collaboration

This joint degree programme builds on over 20 years of collaborative work between the University of Birmingham and HUST, in areas such as engineering and biosciences, nursing and dentistry. Your text, images, buttons etc go here.

World-Class Teaching from Leading Universities

The Biomedical Science degree will be taught in English by University of Birmingham staff, and to ensure that students are comfortable with the structure and language of an English degree programme, there will be a first year module delivered on English for Biomedical Science. The Pharmacy degree will be taught by academic staff from HUST.

The University of Birmingham Biomedical Sciences degree has a proud record of achievement, having been ranked 10th in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2024. Students value the programme highly, ranking it 1st within the Russell Group for Learning opportunities and Student voice in the 2024 National Student Survey (NSS).

Whilst studying Biomedical Sciences, students will learn from leading experts who carry out fundamental scientific and medical research covering all major biomedical disciplines, thereby receiving a rich diversity of academic knowledge and experience. This programme develops transferable and key research skills such as data analysis and interpretation. This will help students to build a strong understanding of the key ethical and social issues surrounding medical science.

Excellent Employment Propspects for Graduates

Biomedical Science graduates have an excellent record of employment in a wide variety of careers. Many embark on laboratory work in universities, often in PhD positions and in hospitals. Many also go on to become clinical scientists and working for biotechnology companies. Other degree-related careers also include work in clinical trials, and in marketing and management roles at biotechnology companies.

Many of the skills that students will acquire throughout the Biomedical Sciences programme are highly transferable, making it the ideal preparation for many other high-profile careers, such as teaching, accountancy, law and banking, as well as management positions in a variety of companies.

“Students embarking on these new dual degrees will benefit from world leading, research-led teaching jointly delivered by Birmingham colleagues and HUST academics in Wuhan, providing a distinctive and intellectually stimulating academic experience.

“Colleagues in Birmingham and Wuhan are preparing a high-quality education experience, taught in English, which will equip Chinese students with skills that are eagerly sought after by international graduate employers.”
