BSc/MSci Biomedical Science to MBChB Medicine and Surgery transfers
Aims of the scheme:
This exciting new scheme allows some flexibility for transfer onto medicine after completing year 1 of biomedical science for academically excellent students who have found their interests develop during their studies at university.
Operation of the scheme:
- This is a highly competitive scheme open to all first year University of Birmingham Biomedical Science students and will be based on performance whilst studying at university.
- Only one application will be considered (Students who have previously been interviewed for medicine at UoB and unsuccessful at that stage will not normally be eligible)
- Students who are interested in the scheme will be invited to submit an application during semester 1 of their studies. The application will include submission of a new personal statement to the university.
- Shortlisting for interview in semester 2 will be based on academic grades achieved in semester 1 with a threshold of being on track for a first class average mark with no less than 65% in any single module.
- Interviews will follow the same MMI process as those applying directly through UCAS for medicine. Students applying for transfer must score above the lowest mark used for UCAS entry in that year.
- There will be no UCAT requirement for this scheme.
Conditional offers:
Offers made through this transfer scheme will be subject to the following conditions;
- Students will be required to have an overall first class average mark with no less than 65% in any module by the end of year 1 Biomedical Science.
- All students will be subject to the normal non-academic requirements of joining the MBChB programme, which will include a DBS check, Health and Immunisation questionnaire and passing ‘Fitness to Practice’.
